Microsoft Authenticator Setup for Students ⭐

Multi-Factor Authentication at Knox College

Knox College utilizes the Microsoft Authenticator application on mobile devices to verify users when they are trying to log into their Knox account or a campus computer. A mobile device could be your cell phone or tablet.

What you will need

  • A Laptop or Desktop

  • A Mobile device (phone, tablet)

How to Setup Microsoft Authentication

  1. Log in to a computer.

  2. Open a web browser and head to http://my.knox.edu .

  3. When you log in, you will be prompted to provide more information.

  4. On your mobile device, head to the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android) and download “Microsoft Authenticator”. Once you have done this, hit next.

    1. If you have the work profile because you are an employee at Knox, download the authenticator using your work profile App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store.

    2. If you already have the Microsoft Authenticator, hit Next.

  5. Once the download is complete, open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device, and allow notifications if prompted. 

  6. Then add an account and choose “Work or school” (on your mobile device).

  7. After choosing “Work or school account” hit next on the computer.

  8. Select “Scan QR Code” on your mobile device. Your mobile device’s camera will open, use that to scan the QR code on the computer screen. Once you have scanned the QR code, click next on the computer. (The black box is where your QR code will be.)

  9. A number will then be displayed on the computer screen and you will be prompted to type that number into the Microsoft Authentication application on your mobile device.

  10. After typing the number into your mobile device, you should receive a notification that reads “Notification approved”. Click Next.

  11. Enter your phone number and click Next.

    1. Or click “I want to set up a different method” in the bottom left corner.

  1. You will receive a phone call and be prompted to hit the pound key (#) on your mobile device to complete the sign in.

  2. On the computer, you will be notified that the call was answered and your phone was registered successfully. Click Next.

  3. You will then be notified that you have successfully set up two methods and can click done.
