Windows 10 S was a feature-limited version of Windows 10 designed and marketed to education providers to compete with Chrome OS. In March 2018, the OS was deprecated and replaced by Windows 10 "S Mode" which serves a similar purpose.
The most important part of its limited feature set is that it restricts software installation to applications obtained from the Microsoft Store. This means that Bradford cannot be installed, and the device will not be allowed on our network.
Systems Administrator Error
If when a user is attempting to install Bradford, an Antivirus, or any other program downloaded from the internet, they receive the error "The System Administrator has prevented this installation" it is possible that they are running Windows 10 in S mode. While Windows 10 S required the user to pay a fee to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, disabling S Mode is free and can be easily done in the Microsoft Store.
Disabling Windows 10 S Mode
- In Windows 10 Settings, select Update & Security.
- Select Activation. You should find "Switch to Windows 10 Home" or similar. Click Go to the Store.
- Once the Microsoft Store opens, it should bring you to a screen titled "Switch out of S mode". Click the Get button. Then click the Install button (this might take a moment to appear; it will be in the same place as the Get button).
- After about five seconds, S Mode will be disabled and you can install programs and applications from the internet, such as Bradford and antivirus programs.
