Mac OS Wireless And FortiNAC Registration for Faculty/Staff

Important: If you have attempted to connect to Wi-Fi by way of the Knox Guest Access network, these steps will not work.

Make sure to forget the Knox Guest Access network prior to connecting to Knox-Wireless.

Connect to Knox-Wireless on this Device

  1. Begin by clicking on the Wi-Fi icon in the upper right corner. Select Knox-Wireless.

2. Enter your Knox credentials when prompted for Username (without the @knox.edu) and Password.

3. You may be prompted to review the Certificate. Choose to Always trust the certificate then click Continue. 

FortiNAC Registration

Initial Installation Procedure

  1. Confirm your Mac’s security settings. This is required to allow the temporary installation of the FortiNAC program on your Mac.

    1. Click the Apple Icon in the top left corner 

    2. Click System Preferences

    3. Open Security & Privacy

    4. Click the General tab. If prompted, enter your username and password you use to login to your Mac. Make sure you are unlocked to allow changes. 

    5. Under Allow apps downloaded from: select App Store and identified developers

2. Open a web browser and try to navigate to cnn.com or knoxaccess.knox.edu

3. You will automatically be sent to Knox College Network Access start screen. 

a. Read over the acceptable use policy by clicking the link

b. Click on Agree

4. The Welcome page will open. Click on option one: Students, Faculty, and Constituents who have a permanent Knox Account.

5. The Download screen will appear:

a. Enter your Knox username

b. Enter your Knox email password

c. Click Download. The FortiNAC installer will be downloaded to your computer. 

6. Run FortiNAC by double-clicking on the FortiNAC Persistent Agent.exe

7. When the installation completes a FortiNAC login box will open. 

  1. Enter your Knox username

  2. Enter your Knox email password

  3. Click Login. 

  4. FortiNAC will now begin a scan to checks your computer for required operating system upgrades and for the presence of an anti-virus software. 

  5. When the scan completes your computer will display a pop-up message notifying you that your device has been successfully registered.

  6. Close and then reopen your web browser and navigate to cnn.com. If cnn.com opens, you are finished.

Registration Fails

If cnn.com does not load, you will need to navigate to knoxaccess.knox.edu. You will be taken to the FortiNAC remediation page. Depending on the status of your computer you will need to either install operating system updates and/or an antivirus program.

11. You will be prompted with a list of antivirus software recommended by the college. Install your preferred antivirus from the list. 

12. Rescan your computer once you have completed the antivirus installation and Operating System update (The rescan button is at the bottom of the Anti-Virus list).

13. FortiNAC should reconfigure. Please be patient. Once complete, you can go to a website of your choice.
