Java for CX - Windows

About


At time writing, JAVA 64 Bit, Version 8u151 is required to run CX for Windows.  This is the version typically launched from the My.Knox.edu homepage.

Installation Process


This is a three step process.  

  1. Remove the improper version
  2. Install the proper version
  3. Set Java updates to not update

Remove presently installed versions of Java


Windows 7

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. In the upper right hand corner of the screen click on on "View By"
  4. Set View by to Small Icons


  5. Click on Programs and Features


  6. Click on a JAVA entry.
  7. At the top of the list, click on "Uninstall".


  8. Follow any on screen prompts to complete the removal.
  9. Repeat for any remaining JAVA items.

Windows 10

  1. Right click on the Windows button in the lower left hand corner.
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. In the upper right hand corner of the screen click on on "View By".
  4. Set View by to Small Icons


  5. Click on Programs and Features


  6. Click on a JAVA entry.
  7. At the top of the list, click on "Uninstall".


  8. Follow any on screen prompts to complete the removal.
  9. Repeat for any remaining JAVA items.

Install Version 8u151


  1. Open File Explorer
  2. Double click on the Apps (N): drive
      or  

  3. Double click on the JAVA_Installer folder to open it.


  4. Drag and Drop  file to your Windows desktop.


  5. Close File Explorer
  6. Go to your Windows desktop
  7. Double click on JAVA Installer to start the installation.


  8. Follow the prompts on the screen to complete the installation.


Turn Off Automatic Java Updating


  1. Open Control Panel (see above for instructions)
  2. Double click on the Java Control Panel icon to open it.


  3. Click the Update tab.


  4. Click on the Check for Updates Automatically in order to uncheck the box.


  5. A Warning screen will pop up. Click Do Not Check.


  6. Click the Apply button.



  7. Close the app.
  8. Close Control Panel.
