Filemaker - Connecting to Databases

About

The majority of Filemaker databases are now stored on the Filemaker Server.  This has the advantage of:

  1.  Automatic Backups

  2. Improved database sharing

  3. Improved Security

Opening Databases on the FilemakerServer

Filemaker is now run from KnoxAnyware. Never used KnoxAnyWare?:  Click Here.

Databases on the Server

Setup Your Favorite Host

  1. If this is the first time you are using the Filemaker Server, you may need to setup a Favorite Host.
  2. Launch Filemaker via KnoxAnyWare (never used KnoxAnyWare?  Click Here.
  3. Click File
  4. Click Hosts
  5. Click Show Hosts
  6. Click the "+" 


  7. Enter the information highlighted below and click Save:


  8. If prompted as below, check the box next to "Always permit connection to this host" and click Connect.

Databases on the Filemaker Host

  1. Open Filemaker via KnoxAnyWare
  2. Click on File
  3. Click on Hosts
  4. Under Favorites, click on Filemaker Server
  5. Select the desired database from the list which appears on the right.

Most Recently Used 

  1. Once Filemaker opens, you will see your most recently used databases.
  2. If you see the database you're after, double-click on it and the database will open.


  3. If you see a security prompt, click affirmatively and proceded to the database.

Local Databases

  1. Launch Filemaker via KnoxAnyWare (never used KnoxAnyWare?  Click Here.
  2. Click File
  3. Click Open


  4. Use the Open File window to navigate to your locally stored database.


  5. Double-click on the desired database to open it.
  6. If you see a security prompt, click affirmatively and proceded to the database.
