Redirected Folders

When you log on to a College-owned Windows computer, the files are actually stored on one of the College's servers - not the computer you are using.  To access these files from your personally owned Windows computer, you will need to follow the directions below.  

Redirected folders automatically created for you include:

  • A Windows-based desktop folder
  • A Windows-based My Documents folder

Home Account

"Home Account" is another name for the location of the files stored on our servers.  Specifically, this location refers to the folder on College servers where your desktop and My Document folders are located.  You may add or remove additional folders as you see fit.

When Logged in On College-owned Windows computers

  • Your Windows Desktop or folders on your desktop
  • Your My Documents folder and sub-folders
  • If using Windows Explorer:
    • Drive Z:
    • Faculty and Staff will also have a "W" drive to access files shared on departmental servers.

Personally Owned Windows Computer

You will need to use Windows Explorer to attach to the appropriate server.  Enter the appropriate location as noted below and provide the appropriate credentials.

Students

Accounts are broken up into groups, based upon you Knox username.  Use the group which contains the first letter of your username

  • \\students.knox.edu\student-a-c\your Knox username

  • \\students.knox.edu\student-d-f\your Knox username
  • \\students.knox.edu\student-g-j\your Knox username
  • \\students.knox.edu\student-k-m\your Knox username
  • \\students.knox.edu\student-n-r\your Knox username
  • \\students.knox.edu\student-s-z\your Knox username
Faculty

Accounts are broken up into groups, based upon you Knox username.  Use the group which contains the first letter of your username

  • \\faculty.knox.edu\faculty-a-k\your Knox username
  • \\faculty.knox.edu\faculty-l-z\your Knox username
Staff

Accounts are broken up into groups, based upon you Knox username.  Use the group which contains the first letter of your username

  • \\staff.knox.edu-\staff-a-k\your Knox username
  • \\staff.knox.edu\staff-l-z\your Knox username
