Android Work Profile Requirement and Installation
About:
For security purposes, Google is now requiring all College / Business account users to create a work profile on their Android phones.
Users new to the College after 02/09/22
Follow the instructions in the video immediately below:
Exiting users with phone setup prior to 02/09/22
During the week February 6, 2022 the end-users were sent an email advising the need to update their phones. (see the bottom of this page for the text of the email.) An instructional video link is contained in the email. The email was customized to note the existing setup on the phone (as determined by our systems).
One of 4 scenarios were identified for the end-user. The video was then linked in the email.

Troubleshooting
Scenario 1: Error message while creating work profile
Solution: Go to Google Account settings menu then remove all version of the users Knox account. There may be a personal section and work section, check both for a Knox account. Once the Knox account has been removed from the personal and work section, follow the video guide on creating a work profile.
Knox College How to Create a Work Profile on AndroidScenario 2: User reports gmail/calendar apps donât show Knox account or arenât syncing
Solution: When a work profile is created there are separate apps specifically for use with their Knox account. Ensure the user is using the work profile apps and not the personal apps. (Work profile apps have a small blue briefcase over the normal app icon)Scenario 3: User is not signed into their Knox account, but thereâs still a work profile section on the phone.
Solution: Ensure the Knox profile isnât signed into the personal section and the work section, then search for âUninstall work profileâ within the settings menu. Once the work profile is uninstalled, try adding the account again.
(Some phones have this option, and some do not)Scenario 4: Userâs contacts were split between the Personal and Work contact.
Solution: For now, the best solution is to go into the work contacts app, highlight the contacts you need to move, then open the settings and select share. There you should be able to text the contacts to the same phone you are using. Then open the messenger app and download the contacts you just texted to yourself.

Example Email
Hi (User First Name)
We are sending you this email because according to our records in Knox College ITS, we believe your phone needs a mandatory update, per the information stated in this Google Blog: Google Workspace Update. We strongly recommend that you perform this update as soon as possible, as Google has stated your work data will stop syncing to your phone on March 19, 2022 if you don't update.
Here is the phone we believe you need the update on:
Model: Samsung Galaxy S10e Samsung Galaxy S10e SM-G970U
Serial Number: R12346789000
We believe your work account is signed in without a Work Profile on your phone, so I've attached a link to a video guide for how to perform this update in your situation:Â Video Link. During the update, you should not lose any apps or data.Â
Please note that your phone's configuration may be different than that of your colleagues, so the process of the update may be different for each of you.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact User Services by submitting a ticket or calling 309-341-7700.
Thank you.
