Familiarize yourself with the AV equipment
Projector
The room is equipped with a HITACHI Projector which projects to the screen above the fireplace. The green light on the front of the projector indicates that it is turned on.
The Control Panel for the projector can be found on the wall under the projector.
To turn on the projector, press the āONā button underneath āDISPLAYā.
Once you are done using the projection, press the āOFFā button underneath āDISPLAYā.
Wired connections
When the light for HDMI 1 is āONā the projector will display anything that the video switcher is connected to:
Main PC using the wireless keyboard and mouse (Input 5 on the video switcher.)
Table Connection (Input 7 on the video switcher.)
Podium Connection (Input 8 on the video switcher.)
Wireless connection
HDMI 2 is for the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter. Press āHDMI 2ā and follow the on-screen instructions to connect wirelessly.
Projector screen
The button control panel is on the left side of the fireplace.
Press up/down button to raise/lower the screen.
If the screen comes down too far, you can stop it while it is moving by pressing the stop button.
Main PC
Press the #5 button on the video switcher to use the Main PC.
Locate the wireless keyboard and mouse.
It is where the last person left it.
Click the mouse a few times to see if the computer responds and is displayed on the projector screen.
If the computer does not show up on the projector screen, you will need to locate the Main PC in the AV cabinet.
When the PC is on, the light illuminates WHITE, if you find the PC turned off, press the power button once.Ā
Do not shut down the main PC.
When finished, log off of the main PC.
Troubleshooting the computer
If you think the PC is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for a few seconds to force a shut down, wait a few seconds, and then press the power button once to turn it on.
Wireless keyboard
Look for the ON switch on the side of the keyboard.
The green/white light indicates that the keyboard is on.
If they keyboard is unresponsive, the batteries need to be replaced.
If the batteries have been replaced with fresh ones, check the computer to see if there is a USB receiver.
Wireless Mouse
If they mouse is unresponsive, the batteries need to be replaced.
If the batteries have been replaced with fresh ones, check the connection to the computer and make sure the USB is plugged in.
Video switcher
The video switcher helps select between multiple incoming video sources.
For projection make sure the power is turned on for the switcher. The green switch located on the left should have the āIā pressed in for it to be turned on. If the āOā is pressed in, the video switcher is turned off.
Identify the correct input number for your device connection and select it by pressing the appropriate button.
The active selection is backlit with a red light.
Input 1 - Not in use
Input 2 - Not in use
Input 3 - Not in use
Input 4 - Not in use
Input 5 - Main PC
Input 6 - Not in use
Input 7 - Table connections - HDMI/VGA/Audio
Input 8 - Podium connections - HDMI/VGA/Audio
Room Audio
Note: Make all audio adjustments on the main PC first.
Click the speaker icon (outlined in red).
Drag the slider on the bar left to turn down and right to turn up the volume (outlined in green).
The computer volume is muted if you see the speaker icon with an āxā next to it (outlined in red/green).
To unmute the computer, click the speaker icon with the āxā that is outlined in green.
Use the TV remote to turn the volume up or down as needed.
Amplifier
Red outlined button: This button can power on or power off the amplifier.
Green outlined knob: It is the master volume knob and can control audio output from all sources.
Input 1: All computer audio sources
Input 2: Shure Wireless Microphone
Input 3: Not in use
Input 4: Not in use
Microphone Setup
Ensure the receiver is turned on by flipping the switch. āIā is on, āOā is off.
Turn on the microphone.
The microphone should illuminate. If it does not, change the battery.
To change the battery, twist the bottom cap off of the microphone counter-clockwise.
If the microphone is not working, ensure:
The amplifier is turned on. (outlined in red)
Input volume #2 is turned on.
Master volume is turned on. (outlined in green)
If the microphone is still not working, ensure the Group number and Channel number are matching between the microphone and receiver. This can be found on the illuminated screen of the microphone and on the front of the microphone receiver.
Podium Setup Guide
The podium needs to be located to the left of the projector screen to use the AV connections from the podium.
Podium connections
In order to present from the podium, you will need to access to port on the floor. It may be located next to or under the podium depending on where the last person left the podium.
If it is not plugged in, you will need to open the cover, plug in the power cable and the ethernet cable.
Look at the ports on the side of your laptop to decide which cable(s) will work for your laptop.
Available cables include: HDMI, VGA, Guest Audio.
If you use VGA for video and want to utilize audio, you will need to use the Guest Audio cable as well.
HDMI transmits video and audio with just the one cable.
If your laptop utilizes any other video/audio connections, you will need to utilize an adapter. If you do not have an adapter, you can visit the Help Desk in SMC E005 during business hours.
AV cabinet instructions for podium connections
Input #8 on the video switcher is designated for the inputs (HDMI or VGA) on the podium. After you have followed the directions above, you should be able to present from your laptop plugged into the tabletop connections.
Table Connection Setup Guide
Before moving the tables, verify that you have unplugged the ethernet cable and the power cord (the black cable).

Table Connections
The Black Electrical Panel (the black circle on the floor near the middle of the room, possibly underneath the tables) will be where the table port receives power and transmits connection to the projector.
When you have moved the tables back to their original place, plug the ethernet cable back in and the power cord (the black cable) inside of the black circle panel on the floor.
The table port (black square on top of the table) will then show a green light once the power cable has been plugged in. Note: The green light does not verify if the ethernet cable is plugged in.
AV Cabinet Instruction for Table Connections
Input #7 on the video switcher is designated for the inputs (HDMI or VGA) on the table. After you have followed the directions above, you should be able to present from your laptop plugged into the tabletop connections.
