Esri's ArcGIS is a geographic information system (GIS) for working with maps and geographic information. It is used for: creating and using maps; compiling geographic data; analyzing mapped information; sharing and discovering geographic information; using maps and geographic information in a range of applications; and managing geographic information in a database.
The system provides an infrastructure for making maps and geographic information available throughout an organization, across a community, and openly on the Web.
ArcGIS at Knox
ArcGIS used primarily by the Environmental Studies Department. Classes are offered yearly.
The College has licensed a "Lab Pak" from ESRI. The Lab Pak allows for 31 concurrent users. The system checks against our ArcGIS license server and issue licenses on a first come, first served basis. Users must be connected to the Knox network for the License server to issue the license.
Uses going off campus may us the Checkout feature to temporarily license an install for off-campus use. By design, these installs have limited time frame for operation. You must be connected to the Knox network to initiate the check out procedure.
