ArcGIS 10.X Installation Procedure

Licensing

The College has licensed a "Lab Pak" from ESRI.  The Lab Pak allows for 31 concurrent users.  The system checks against our ArcGIS license server and issue licenses on a first come, first served basis. Users must be connected to the Knox network for the License server to issue the license.

Uses going off campus may us the Check Out feature to temporarily license an install for off-campus use.  By design, these installs have limited time frame for operation.  You must be connected to the Knox network to initiate the check out procedure. 

Availability

ArcGIS must be installed locally on a PC.  ArcGIS will not run from the network or KnoxAnyWare.

End-Users must request a local install of ArcGIS..  Any current Faculty, Staff or Student may make this request.  ArcGIS is installed from the \\compcenter.knox.edu\comp_center\ARCGIS-10-3 folder.  

Standard PC Installation Instructions

1. Unfreeze the computer as applicable (labs) - or-
   have the user bring their laptop to the Help Desk.
   
   
2. Login to the computer as a user with appropriate rights to install software.
   
   
3. Create a c:\GIStemp folder.
   
   
4. Have a member of User Services Connect to \\compcenter.knox.edu.
   
   
5. Connect to the share holding the ArcGIS files
   
   
6. Navigate to the Arc_GIS folder.  You should see these files.
   
   
   
   
7. You will install the files in the order shown on the screen.
   
   
8. Double click on each file to start the extraction and install process.
   
   
9.  Change the destination folder for the installation files to c:\Temp
   
   
   
   
10. Click Next and the files will be extracted.
    
    
11. When prompted to close, assure that the Launch the setup program box is checked.  Then click close.
    
    
    
    
    
12. The actual program install will begin.
     
13. Click Next
    
    
    
    
    
14. Agree to the terms and click next.
    
    
    
    
    
15.  Select Complete for the Installation Type
    
    
    
    
    
    
16.  Click Next to accept the installation directory.
    
    
    
    
    
17.  Click Next on the Python install directory screen.
    
    
    
    
    
18.  Click Next on the Ready to Install the program screen.
    
    
    
    
    
19.  The program will start installing. Once installed, click the Close button.
    
    
20. The ArcGIS Administration Wizard will automatically launch  The following screen will be displayed.
    If this screen does not appear or you inadvertently close the window see ArcGIS Licensing
    
    
    
    
21. On this screen,  adjusts the settings as follows:
    
    
    1. Under Item #1 - Click the Advanced (ArcInfo) Concurrent Use item
    2. Under Item #2.:Define a  License Mange now, Click  the Define a  License Mange now item
    3. Click the browse button 
    4. Scroll until you see LICENSE 
    5. Click on LICENSE 
    6. Click OK
        

Copy over the Map Files

1.  \Maps folder to the C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS folder

Clean Up the Installation Files

1. Delete the contents of c:\temp.  This clears up disk space on the computer.
