Google Groups as Email Distribution Lists
Google Groups as Email Distribution Lists
About -
Google Groups and Email Distribution Lists are synonymous.
Prior to the adoption of Google Apps for Education
Google Groups are created by two methods:
- Exports from the College's administrative system which are then imported into Google Groups
- Examples:
- Student_Dist
- FacStaff_Dist
- Class lists
- Class Year lists
- These groups may not be permanently modified by end-users.
- Temporary changes may be made by the owners of the these groups.
- The lists are repopulated each night erasing any changes made during the day.
- Permanent additions to or removals from these lists must be approved by the appropriate department's supervisory personnel.
- Submit the request via the ITS Help Desk Portal
- ITS will process the request.
- Examples:
- End-User Created Google Groups
- Any end-user may create a Google Group.
- The creator is the owner of the group.
- End-user created Groups always end with a -user suffix.
- Ownership may be transferred if needed.
- Should removal of the -user be required, submit a ticket to ITS requesting an email alias be created for the new group.
